VEDA Supports Infrastructure

VEDA is able to finance the building of infrastructure to support all kinds of development across Vermont, including new housing.

HOUSING

Vermont desperately needs more housing and housing requires infrastructure.

To support the construction of infrastructure that supports housing like roads, sewer, water, and stormwater systems, Vermont created the Community and Housing Infrastructure Program (CHIP) which allows municipalities and developers to use tax increment financing. This new tool helps municipalities grow their grand list and tax base without raising local property taxes to finance infrastructure construction.

CHIP projects must be approved by the Vermont Economic Progress Council.

VEDA also lends directly to housing projects with five or more units. Learn more about that effort here. 

PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE

VEDA, the Vermont Agency of Transportation, and the Federal Highway Administration support the Vermont State Infrastructure Bank program (SIB), which assists in the construction or reconstruction of highways, roads and bridges, facilities related to rail transit, electric vehicle charging stations, and natural gas refueling stations.
