The Correias’ is a large multi-generational family farm which has grown from its original 212 acres to 1,022 acres in the years since the property was purchased by Tony and Barbara Correia in 1974.
Joined now in ownership by their two sons, Stephen and Jeffrey, the Correias’ farm infrastructure includes an older dairy barn which houses the milking parlor, a 400-cow freestall barn built in 2005, a greenhouse calf barn, an equipment storage building, several smaller outbuildings, two manure storage lagoons and a large bunker silo.
VACC loans totaling $788,050 will enable the Correia Limited Partnership to purchase 157 acres of additional farmland. In addition, the farm owners will purchase tillage equipment to improve subsurface drainage on their corn land, and a tractor large enough to operate that equipment; a pasteurizer to enable the feeding of whole milk to their calves; and a heat detection device to measure cattle activity and transmit data to a computer.
